Transformative African Leadership
Africa’s next generation of leaders will not inherit institutions.
They will transform them
About TAL
TAL represents a historic pan-African collaboration. It is the first executive leadership programme jointly designed and delivered by four leading African universities: the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), the Public Policy School at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (Morocco), Université Cheikh Anta Diop (Senegal) and the Institute for Development Studies at the University of Nairobi (Kenya). The programme is supported by the Agence Française de Développement.
Born from a shared belief that Africa’s transformation must be led by Africans, TAL reflects a broader continental ambition: supporting implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by developing leaders equipped to work across borders, institutions and sectors. Read more
The TAL Journey
The Transformative African Leadership programme is where Africa’s future is thought, challenged and shaped.
TAL brings together leaders who engage critically with the systems that define power, knowledge and development. It challenges dominant narratives and re-examines global frameworks through African lenses. Participants learn to navigate and redefine the forces shaping the continent – sustainability, geopolitics, industrialisation, value chains, artificial intelligence and economics – within the trajectories of AfCFTA, the SDGs and Agenda 2063.
Rooted in African values and inspired by the continent’s knowledge systems, TAL reimagines leadership as a collective and conscious act; one that connects insight with responsibility and vision with impact.
This is not about keeping pace with change.
It is about questioning it and giving it direction.
Why Join TAL
TAL equips leaders with the cross-border and cross-sector capabilities needed to drive economic integration. Participants leave the programme with a transformed approach to leadership, grounded in the ability to unlearn, rethink and lead with new perspectives.
Leadership grounded in how Africa actually works
Address real institutional challenges, not academic case studies
Contribute directly to AfCFTA implementation through cross-border leadership practice
Gain access to a network of leaders and become the change you seek for Africa
Who Should Apply?
TAL is designed for mid-career African leaders already shaping decisions and ready to work across institutions, economies and borders to advance the continent’s transformation.
Ready to lead Africa’s next transformation?
